The 1 in 4: 300 and Counting
With the new year upon us, many of you are probably like me: staring at the blank pages of a new calendar, filling in important appointments, and circling dates to remember. One date that I hope you will circle is March 24th – the date of the 2019 Anna’s Grace Quarter Marathon.
Over the next few weeks, our blog will feature stories from members of the 1 in 4, families who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. They will tell you why they are participating in our running event and why it is so important to them. Their individual accounts will give insight into the personal effect the Quarter Marathon has, but I’d like to take a moment to paint the “big picture” of what YOUR involvement can accomplish.
In our community, one out of every four pregnancies – a quarter - will end in a loss. Some families will need assistance with the unexpected expenses associated with saying goodbye to a precious baby. Many will search for emotional healing, ways to honor and remember their babies. Anna’s Grace Foundation has provided important financial assistance to more than 300 families (including 150 of them in 2018 alone!) and hosted numerous events to help those grieving the loss of a little one. Sadly, 2019 will bring additional heartbreak to our community. Already this morning Anna’s Grace received two requests for assistance. Luckily, there is something you can do to help: participate!
With a new year underway, we’re ready to kick off the running season with a bang. Join us this Friday, January 11th for our 2019 Kickoff Celebration hosted by one of our Race Partners, Ochsner Medical Center Baton Rouge. Our Q Crew will be on hand from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. to answer any questions you may have about registration, team building, sponsoring, or volunteering. And since it’s Anna’s birthday, we are offering our lowest registration rates!
We’re also excited to introduce you to our new venue! L’auberge Casino & Hotel Baton Rouge has partnered with us to bring you a running course like no other. Peaceful and flat, the course will be an out-and-back on River Road starting on the north end of the property. We love it, and we hope you will too.
Along with everyone at Anna’s Grace Foundation, I wish you a Happy New Year and hope that you will include us in your 2019 calendar. Because we’re not just running. We’re running for the 1 in 4.
