BBQ for the 1 in 4: Meet the Team
My name is Phyllis Gremillion and I have been a bbq cook off event committee member since 2014. My responsibilities for the fundraiser include running the concessions, handling all monetary donations and proceeds at the end of the event. I’ve also helped plan the event from its beginning stages in its first year until now.
This event/fundraiser is so important to me because I am the grandmother of Ainsley Grace Hollier. I know first hand how devastating this loss is on a family as I had to watch my first born child and my son in law lose their 1st born baby. The loss of an infant or child is such a life changing tragedy, but the loss also affects an entire family. As Ainsley’s Grandparents, we were heartbroken to have to bury our first grandchild. My 2 younger daughters had to quickly say good-bye to their first niece. The devastation is all around for the families who lose a child, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Ainsley’s memory and give back to those families who we can relate to.
My favorite parts of the cook off are mingling with our pro and new cooking teams who keep us smiling and laughing all day. We love their passion for bbq, and equally love when they want us to taste test!
I also love the kid’s cook off division in the morning. It’s a great way for families to bond,
and I love to see the kids get so excited to cook and learn. Celebrating the memory of all of the lost children in our community is a feeling you sense and feel all day while enjoying yourself & your family.
I can’t think of a better way to come together for a beautiful cause in South Louisiana.
Phyllis is a member of the planning committee for the Ainsley's Angels BBQ Cook-Off and is the grandmother of sweet Ainsley. The event will be held on May 18th at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center. All proceeds from the cook-off will benefit the programs of Anna's Grace Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides emotional and financial assistance to families in the Greater Baton Rouge Area who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. For more information about the cook-off and how you can be a part of it, please visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AnnasGraceCares.
